Dermal fillers
WHAT ARE THEY AND WHAT'S THEIR ROLE?
Dermal fillers primarily replenish volume, help the skin retain moisture, and hydrate it. With precise dosing and careful selection of filler application sites, the entire face regains lost volume, subsequently smoothing wrinkles and giving the skin a youthful glow. We always adhere to the principle of "less is more" – we want our clients to maintain a natural appearance with minimal adjustments. Therefore, it's crucial to emphasize that hyaluronic fillers allow for achieving and maintaining a natural appearance of facial contours. Treating specific areas of the face with special techniques achieves a facelift effect.
WHEN TO START THIS TYPE OF TREATMENT AND AM I A CANDIDATE FOR IT?
Facial skin begins to lose collagen and elastin as early as in the mid-twenties, so it's ideal to start using dermal fillers (such as skin boosters that don't add volume to the face) as soon as you notice the first prominent wrinkles or feel that the youthful glow of your skin is fading under the burden of daily stress and fatigue. Starting treatment earlier can also mean more successful prevention of premature signs of skin aging.
Dermal fillers are not recommended for pregnant or breastfeeding women and individuals in acute illness. Everyone else can benefit from the advantages of dermal fillers when they want to refresh or enhance the appearance of their face.
WHAT TO EXPECT FROM YOUR THERAPIST AND CONSULTATIONS?
Consultations are the first part of meeting with the physician who will administer the dermal fillers. Through discussion and examination, the physician will learn all about your desires and based on the gathered information, recommend an approach that will benefit your skin and facial shape the most. They will explain their recommendations, discuss with you which areas to treat, and determine the amount of filler needed to achieve the best results. It's important to openly discuss all details of your health during consultations.
HOW DOES THE PROCEDURE OF INITIATING DERMAL FILLERS LOOK LIKE?
Dermal fillers are designed to maintain skin health while providing a simple, comfortable, and minimally painful application experience. Therefore, you don't need to fear discomfort or pain. Besides the anesthetic cream applied before the procedure, the fillers themselves contain mild anesthetics in their formulation. The treatment is performed on an outpatient basis in the clinic and consists of several stages.
1. The initial discussion with the patient is the most important to listen to all patient desires and expectations.
2. The patient signs the consent for the procedure.
3. After the discussion, a facial treatment plan is made, and the dermal filler to be applied is selected.
4. Then, preparation begins, and the treatment is performed.
5. The filler is injected into the desired area using small, thin needles. During the treatment, the patient is informed about the amount of filler injected, and if desired, they can inspect the effect of what has been done at any time.
6. After the treatment, the physician applies a post-procedural cream that maximally reduces redness and possible skin irritation. Therefore, most patients leave without any signs of the treatment being performed.
Overall, the treatment and discussion will last about an hour, depending on whether the patient is coming for the specific treatment for the first time and knows exactly what they want to treat. The treatment itself lasts depending on the areas being treated and the amount of filler being applied, in total from 30 to 45 minutes.
WHAT IS THE RECOVERY LIKE AND WHAT TO EXPECT AFTER THE PROCEDURE?
Dermal fillers do not require any special recovery period. It's important only to avoid strong sunlight, saunas, or solariums for a day or two after filler application, avoid pressing on the face, and refrain from extremely strenuous physical activity. On the first day after the treatment, it's necessary to avoid using makeup and refrain from drinking alcohol to prevent unnecessary swelling, which subsides within 2 days. We will thoroughly massage the treated areas after the procedure, while at home, you can gently massage yourself over sterile gauze. Mild redness may occur, which will pass within a few hours, and if slight swelling or bruising occurs, you can be sure it will disappear without consequences within a few days.
It is recommended to use certain cosmetics to alleviate tissue reaction, but only as recommended by the doctor (creams, ointments). For example: Teoxane creams – Post Procedure or Deep Repair Balm, which instantly alleviate and remove redness.
WHEN ARE RESULTS VISIBLE AND IS FOLLOW-UP NEEDED?
Although the effect of fillers is immediately visible, from experience, we know that it takes about two weeks for the fillers to distribute in the skin and show their full effect. Therefore, if you want to repeat the treatment, it is recommended to wait for some time to see the result. In case some of the instructions are unclear, you experience side effects, or doubt the success of the results, call us for advice or schedule a follow-up appointment.
